D’s extravagant music video-like concert teases “Zmei” album

On October 16, Gothic fantasy-themed group D released their third “Music Video Live” concert. Orokashii ryuu no yume. After the concert, D suddenly announced a new full album “Zmei” for November 23rd.

The “Music Video Live” concert was relatively short, lasting approximately 48 minutes. D played a 10 song set that included tracks from a few different albums, as well as Angry draco, a fan club-limited single released earlier this year.

Despite its fast pace, Orokashii ryuu no yume was filled with nonstop music and dramatic visuals. The five-member group sported matching red and black suits, made with rich textures and intricate details. Singer Asagi stood out with a pair of curved horns, silver talon-shaped rings and a loose cape with a bat-shaped brim.

D’s intricate outfit for the “Music Video Live” concert Orokashii ryuu no yume.

D performed in a dark, cavernous setting, the stone backdrop shattered by smoke and flames. Sometimes. the smoke picked up skillfully used stage lighting, flashing in shades of emerald green or flame red.

Sometimes D sounds like a high fantasy band, using elements of folk music such as acoustic guitars and tambourines. Then all of a sudden the rhythm of the bass guitar pairs with a high-pitched guitar solo, reminding you that this is indeed a high adrenaline rock band.

The concert was marketed as “Music Video Live”, and it delivered on its promise of high production quality. Multiple cameras and angles were used for a dynamic experience beyond the frontal shot. The concert was conducted by Hiroyuki Kondo of VISUAL TRAP, who has been shooting visual kei content for over 20 years. Kondo is best known for winning the MTV Headbanger’s Ball Award for Best Video two years in a row for DIR EN GRAY’s saku and Drowsy GREEN.

After the concert credits, D announced that they will be releasing a full album later this year, Zmei.

Zmei offers three new songs: Venom immunity, The lamb’s paradoxical sleep, and Zmei ~ fumetsu no ryuu ~. It also includes the track Angry draco, which was previously a limited version of the fan club.

In addition to the CD, a deluxe limited edition will be available. The Deluxe Limited Edition includes the full album, a 44-page photo booklet, as well as a bonus DVD featuring the three new songs mentioned above.

October 30, Zmei ~ Fumetsu no ryuu ~ will be released on its own as a digital single. Following D’s beloved dragons theme, this song seems to be inspired by an immortal dragon from Russian folklore.
